About Riaan

Riaan Prinsloo is a South African landscape artist whose work is shaped by nature, light, atmosphere, and memory. After a 23 year career in facilities and building management, he entered a new chapter in 2020 and began painting seriously in 2023.

Although creativity had long been part of his life, Riaan’s path into art was not immediate. He grew up in Die Moot, Pretoria, and developed a deep appreciation for the natural world over many years. Before fully stepping into painting, he also explored plant cultivation, including orchids, indigenous shade plants, and microgreens, reflecting a strong connection to landscape, growth, and place.

That direction deepened in 2022 when he discovered the work of artist Gerrit Pitout at an exhibition at the Voortrekker Monument. After attending workshops with Pitout in 2023, Riaan continued developing his own visual language with greater clarity and purpose.

His work is rooted in real places, but it is not only about realism. He describes his style as a combination of realism, classical structure, and impressionistic influence, with a strong focus on light, colour, atmosphere, and emotional resonance.

Today, his paintings reflect a strong sense of place and a quiet attentiveness to the natural environment. His work has been exhibited in Pretoria, including at the FAK gallery at the Voortrekker Monument, and continues to connect with viewers through the emotional depth of the South African landscape.
